Semuliki Night Walks
Discover the secrets of the rainforest after dark and spot rare nocturnal primates
Unveil the Jungle's Nighttime Mysteries
As the sun sets over the Semuliki Valley, a whole new world awakens. The Semuliki Night Walk offers a thrilling opportunity to explore the ancient rainforest when it is most alive with sound and activity. Unlike daytime safaris, this experience focuses on the elusive creatures that rule the dark—species you would never see under the bright African sun. Guided by expert UWA rangers equipped with high-powered spotlights, you'll venture into the forest to uncover its nocturnal secrets.
Semuliki National Park is one of the best places in Uganda to spot nocturnal primates. The stars of the show are the Pottos and Bushbabies (Galagos). Pottos are slow-moving, teddy-bear-like primates that cling silently to branches, while Bushbabies are energetic acrobats with massive eyes that reflect the spotlight beam. Seeing these creatures in their natural habitat is a rare privilege. The forest floor is also active, with chances to spot White-tailed Mongooses, Civets, Genets, and occasionally even the elusive Leopard on the prowl.
The experience is as much auditory as it is visual. The jungle symphony at night is deafeningly beautiful—a chorus of crickets, tree frogs, and the haunting calls of nightjars and owls. Your ranger will help you identify these sounds and track animals by their calls and eye-shine. Whether you're a dedicated naturalist or simply seeking a unique adventure, a night walk in Semuliki adds an unforgettable dimension to your safari, revealing the hidden half of the rainforest's biodiversity.
