Conservation

Travel that helps restore the places you came to experience.

Planting Green Paths turns safari bookings and direct support into tree planting, habitat restoration, and community benefit.

About Planting Green Paths

Planting Green Paths, Tree Planting Initiative

Planting Green Paths is Shakes Travel's flagship conservation initiative: a direct, scalable, and financially self-sustaining response to Uganda's conservation crisis. We believe adventure tourism should actively protect the extraordinary natural wonders that make Uganda unforgettable, not just observe them passively. Through strategic native tree planting and habitat restoration, every travel and safari experience you book contributes to conserving the ecosystems, wildlife, and communities that depend on Uganda's forests.

Our model is elegantly simple: every adventure booking generates direct funding for native tree planting along the trails, wildlife corridors, and communities that travelers visit. Over 3 to 6 years, we aim to plant 10,000 native trees across Uganda's premier adventure destinations, from Mabira Forest to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, turning every safari, gorilla trek, and river adventure into a measurable act of ecological restoration.

As a Ugandan-owned travel agency, we've witnessed firsthand how deforestation threatens the landscapes and wildlife that make these journeys extraordinary. Through Planting Green Paths, every adventure booking, tree donation, and eco-stay helps restore gorilla habitats in Bwindi, strengthen wildlife corridors in Queen Elizabeth, and protect watersheds in Murchison Falls, so your travel experience becomes a force for conservation, not just exploration.

Our Objectives

Large-Scale Tree Planting

Large-Scale Tree Planting

Over the next 3 to 6 years, we aim to plant 10,000 native trees across Uganda's premier adventure destinations to restore forests, expand wildlife habitats, combat climate change, and protect the journeys travelers come to experience.

Safari-Linked Conservation

Safari-Linked Conservation

Integrate tree planting directly into adventure experiences so every safari, gorilla trek, river adventure, and wildlife encounter contributes measurable environmental restoration and community benefit.

Community Empowerment

Community Empowerment

Support local communities through tree planting employment, sustainable farming practices, and direct revenue from eco-tourism, creating economic alternatives to forest destruction.

Wildlife Habitat Restoration

Wildlife Habitat Restoration

Restore and expand critical wildlife corridors through strategic tree planting, ensuring the animals that make adventure experiences unforgettable have thriving natural habitats.

The Cause & Our Impact

The Cause, Forest Conservation

The Cause

Uganda's forests are disappearing at an alarming rate, taking with them the habitats that make adventure experiences magical and the resources that sustain local communities. Deforestation driven by agricultural expansion, logging, and climate change threatens both wildlife populations and the livelihoods of people living in adventure destinations.

Without immediate, large-scale reforestation, Uganda's adventure experiences will diminish as wildlife populations decline and ecosystems collapse. Communities have limited economic alternatives to forest exploitation. Planting Green Paths directly addresses this by linking adventure tourism revenue to tree planting, making conservation profitable, measurable, and capable of scaling to 10,000 native trees across key destinations over the next 3 to 6 years.

Our Impact, Community Empowerment
