3 Days Safari to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Face to Face with Mountain Gorillas

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

About This Experience

Three days culminating in one of Earth's most profound wildlife experiences: an hour with wild mountain gorillas in their ancient rainforest home. Watch silverbacks keep watch while youngsters play, mothers nurse infants, and the family feeds on forest vegetation—just meters away from you in Bwindi's mist-shrouded wilderness.

Nothing prepares you for the moment. After trekking through dense rainforest—sometimes for hours, sometimes just thirty minutes—you push through a wall of vegetation and suddenly they're there. A 200-kilogram silverback watches calmly as his family feeds around him. A mother cradles her infant. Young gorillas tumble and play, their human-like expressions unmistakable. For one hour, you're part of their world.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park protects 331 square kilometers of primordial rainforest—vegetation unchanged for 25,000 years. This UNESCO World Heritage Site harbors nearly half the world's remaining mountain gorillas (approximately 459 individuals), making it the most important site for gorilla conservation on Earth. Over 20 habituated family groups welcome visitors daily, each trek limited to just 8 people per group.

The trek begins at park headquarters with a briefing from experienced rangers. You'll learn gorilla behavior, trekking protocol, and safety guidelines (maintain 7 meters distance, no flash photography, turn away if you cough). Then you enter the forest, following trackers who locate the gorillas before dawn each day. The terrain can be steep and muddy, but porters are available to assist—and every step builds anticipation for the encounter ahead.

Beyond gorillas, Bwindi offers cultural depth through the Batwa people—forest pygmies who lived in harmony with the forest and its gorillas for generations. Their cultural experience reveals traditional hunting techniques, medicinal plants, and songs that connect them to their ancestral home. Hiking to the 33-meter Munyaga Waterfall offers another dimension to this extraordinary park.
